Managing the trade-off between head and heart is one of the toughest balancing acts in contemporary philanthropy. Does passion always serve purpose? How do you preserve your personal connection to a cause without sacrificing objectivity? Where does control end and trust start? At what point does an unrelenting quest for impact steer us down a path of diminishing returns?

Philanthropy Australia’s National Conference 2018 explores these themes and more. By probing the idiosyncrasies and complexities of philanthropic practice throughout the conference program, delegates will learn how their peers in the local and global philanthropic community are navigating the same tensions and trade-offs.

This year’s event will challenge, inspire and provoke your thinking on how we can best work towards a just society; philanthropy’s role in our evolving democracy; maximising impact and working across sectors to achieve sustainable systemic change.

With more than 500 delegates and a first-rate speaker line-up, Philanthropy Australia’s biennial conference is the premier event on the Australasian philanthropy calendar, bringing together the world’s best philanthropic minds with local practitioners at all levels.

Three global leaders will share their philanthropic journeys, challenges and hard-won insights: Larry Kramer (William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, USA), Fred Blackwell (The San Francisco Foundation, USA) and Danielle Walker Palmour (Friends Provident Foundation, UK), as will visionary Australian Philanthropy Leaders, Allan English, Audette Exel AO, Ian Darling AO and more.

Come along, be challenged, test your assumptions and contribute to the conversation.
